Both coincidentally died on the 50th anniversary of America’s Independence, which both of them were key figures to. He died on July 4, 1826, the same day that John Adams would die, just a few hours later. He is believed to have had up to 6 children with her, although whether or not he is actually the father of her children remains debatable. His relationship with Sally Hemings, a 14 year old slave he owned, is generally controversial. Despite owning slaves, Jefferson was opposed to the slave trade, and banned the international trading of slaves, although slavery was still allowed. Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809): Another founding father, and Adams’ VP, Jefferson became president after defeating Adams at the 1800 election.Despite his reelection loss, he is still considered one of America’s best Presidents. Adam’s was strongly opposed to slavery, and he and his son are the only 2 of the first 12 presidents to not own slaves. He served as the nation’s first Vice President during the entirety of Washington’s presidency. John Adams (1797-1801): One of America’s founding fathers, John Adams would become America’s first president to lose reelection.He has mainly been criticised for owning slaves, although this does not regularly affect assessments of him as he lived during a time where slavery was common and not necessarily controversial. He also set the precedent of only serving 2 terms as president, after he voluntarily decided to not run for a 3rd term. The nation’s capital, President’s day, the State of Washington, the Washington monument, the use of Washington’s face on the $1 bill and many other things are all named/used as tributes to the president. America’s first president is generally considered one of America’s best presidents, almost always ranking in the top 3. George Washington (1789-1797): After being a key figure to America’s victory during the American Revolution, many supported making Washington the new nation’s leader.
